Hello!
I just recently started experiencing a major problem on our web server. Suddenly, all the SMTP mailing scripts quit working and produced this error:
The message could not be sent to the SMTP server. The transport error code was 0x800ccc15. The server response was not available
Well, after some experimenting, I discovered that all worked just fine (like it used to) once I disabled the McAfee VirusScan Suite 8.0. I assume a recent update caused this problem. Obviously, I can't leave the VS disabled and McAfee has nothing on their site.
I would appreciate any and all suggestions.
There is usually some way to exclude specific processes from beingblocked. Just add the ASPNET process to the exception list andall should go well.
Of course, there are security implications to this that you should think about.
McAfee virusscan enterprise 8 comes with a firewall nowadays ... and it's probably blocking port 25 of your server. So check in your helpfiles to edit the settings of the firewall

Thank you (both of you).
It was McAfee's firewall blocking port 25. I tried adding the ASPNET "service" to the list of exceptions but the only one I could find in the running services was "aspnet_state.exe" so I added that and took a wild guess and also added "aspnet.exe". So my list of excpetions looks like this:
amgrsrvc.exe,tomcat.exe,outlook.exe,msimn.exe,agent.exe,eudora.exe,nlnotes.exe,mozilla.exe,netscp.exe,opera.exe,winpm32.exe,pine.exe,poco.exe,thebat.exe,thunderbird.exe,ntaskldr.exe,inetinfo.exe,nsmtp.exe,nrouter.exe,tomcat5.exe,tomcat5w.exe,ebs.exe,FireSvc.exe,modulewrapper.exe,MSKSrvr.exe,MSKDetct.exe,mapisp32.exe, aspnet_state.exe, aspnet.exe
However, this still didn't work. I had to turn off completely the blocking of Port 25 to make it work. So any ideas on how I can tweak it so aspnet CAN send the emails but I'm still protected from sending out mass mailing on Port 25 incase this machine does get infected?
Thanks again!
did you also try adding aspnet_wp.exe?
cheers,
erik
Yes I did. Still...same error. ![]()
Here is my current list of excpetions in McAfee. Of course, once I resolve this, I plan on removing a lot of these...
amgrsrvc.exe
