So strange, I dont even know how to title it!

Hi,

I got a very strange problem. If I follow a certain series of actions, my website crash, until you close it and open it again.

But..here's what buffles me. If I run my site in my development machine, and set the connection string to the host (HK), I dont get the problem.
Also if I use the site from Singapore (via RDP on a machine I got there) I also dont get the problem.

I suspect if you do the following, you will not be able to replicate the problem:
1) Go to my site (http://www.accuracyauto.com/pdb.aspx)
2) Click Search > Then click on A in the alphabet box. You should get a list of companies starting with an A
3) Go back and click on S. The page in the body (iFRAME) will have an error. Anything else you do then crash (normal uninformative "Page cannot be displayed" error. Even if you try to go to the main site from there by clicking "Go to accuracyauto.com" will crash.
4) If you close everything, all is fine again.

So, my question is two-fold:
1) Can you replicate the problem?
2) Can you imagine what can be the cause of this?

At the moment I sit with lots of fingers pointing at me. I imagine some of you can identify it.

Whoever can help me fix this, I promise I hook you up with a few of the hottest dates you ever laid your eyes on when you get in Beijing. :D1. I can't it works ok here
2. I'm afraid not.

But i will try my hardest.
Works OK here too! That does mean I still get the hottest date if I go to Beijing?
You can have the 2nd hottest.
No problem. You can have the First. I can have the 2nd, 3rd, 4th..... lol
1. I cannot replicate it. Not in FF, Not in IE.
2. Set your web.config files to display errors to everyone, and find out what the error is.
Just ask a ex-coworker in Chicago to check. And also the host from their location in Honk Kong. Also works fine from their locations. Ask another mate here in Bejing now. Same problem than me.

So that mean from UK, USA, Fillipines, Honk Kong, Singapore it's fine. Beijing/China is unstable. Hell, this is strange!

Menhank: Attached is my web config. (renamed to .txt because you cannot attach .config files here) The only error related setting I see is "<customErrors mode="Off" /> ".
This does not sound like the setting you suggest I should change. Should I add one? Sorry, I never worked with the automatically created file.

Also, I noted that <compilation defaultLanguage="c#" debug="false" /> was set to true. According to the documentation this would mean the application run slower. I set it to false, and sound like this should make a difference.

Back to your suggestion. Should I add a setting?

Right now looking again at the code that run when that error occur. Seems fine, but still getting into it to make 100% sure.
Well, like I said this problem only occur with user's inside China. But still went ahead looking around.
Realised this only happen if you click on S. Could not figure what make it different from A or B (url], so out of desperateness (is that a word?) I changed this to pass the number of the letter in the alpabet ([url]) .. still kept giving problems with S only.
Then modified the sproc of the page getting a list of companies a bit, and managed to make it a tad faster. Still did not work.
Then limit the sproc to return only 20 records (top 20)...worked
then 30...worked, went on too 100 and still worked.
Then removed the limit .... STILL WORKING.

Now i deserve to get drunk, smoke my lungs out and a couple of massages this week-end...hell, I'm out of here!

ps: would really like if someone can look at my web config file and see if it's good or not
What if this has to do with that IP address - geography database you're using?

Your web.config looks fine, but just so you know, there isn't a performance overhead when using debug mode, according to Microsoft.
My mistake, it does affect performance. Ignore the last line.
still sober as you can see...hard to breathe though.

ei, I'm not even going to bother again anymore untill I got the site on a more stable host.

Now more of a headache finding a "great" host within the budget boss set.
After that will see how things is.

Thanks for looking at the webconfig.
Why do you insist on getting a host on the Chinese subcontinent/mainland?
Well, my boss, for his own reason, want the site to be hosted outside China Mainland.
As for myself, when I created the site, I knew zit about web dev (honestly), and just figured things out along the way. Now I sit with a site that is not meeting this "accessibility" laws you guys got in the states and uk.
So for me, those two are out.

After looking around it seems good options are
Hong Kong (but dont really feel like the same city than my current host..they made me really negative)
Singapore, Malaysia
Australia

On the other hand, got a xxx USD (per year) limit for this. More than enough for shared hosting (which i dont want) , but far too little for a dedicated server.
Outside the China mainland, says your boss. Exactly! There are lots of reliable hosts out there. Look at www.1and1.com or www.jodohost.com for example.
I would stay away from 1and1

use axwebhost.com!
Hmmm, this JodoHost looks pretty good.

Anyone using VPS at the moment? Easy? I really dont want to add work for myself (dude...I'm busy!!!!)

Still worried about this so-called "laws" and rumours uncle sam can block your site if blind people, etc cannot use it.

There's no super easy method. Each one has its pros and cons. A virtual private server is good as you'll have more control over it.

HUH? No. That applies to government sites. Yours is private.

Oh, btw, Jodohost servers are located in Virginia, USA. (I use them) Problem?
They say they are in Miami, Florida...lol

They sound really great, thanks for the tip!
I finally found the cause for this problem, and even though this post is so old, I thougth to share it.

Ever heard of the Great China Firewall?

And can you believe that the word combination "China Spring Factory" get blocked? no jokes.

If I try to google, yahoo, etc "China Spring Factory" you get a page not found. Just like if you tried to open something saying about the tiananment riot, **** in Taiwan, etc.

There was a company containing this string...and....
But wait, now that this particular page contains China Spring Factory, how are you viewing it?

But this is a very interesting phrase. That explains why we couldn't replicate it.

But it piques my curiosity. You must tell us, what happened? What's the reason?
Joke is i cannot view this page ( I mean this post on VBF) in China! Immediately after i posted it, my browser "crashed".
I'm vrirtually in Kuala Lumpur now (rdc to server, using it's browser)
Wonder how this blocking work. Sometimes a google search for the phrase will actually return results, just to crash a few sedconds later.
Hell I hate typing like this...finish whole sentences before it show...rdc slowinsh...so forgive all the typeo's ...not going bac back to fix them
